In recent years our firm has had the great privilege to have participated in the design and construction of over 80 natural, “Bau Biologie”, breathing, low toxic and fully non-toxic buildings in 11 states. Some of the alternative construction systems our firm has used are: Straw Bale, Straw/Clay, Rammed Earth, “Faswall/Nexcem” block and most recently “Hebel” aerated concrete block.
Many of these projects have included solar electrical and hot water, natural rain water harvesting cisterns and non-polluting “gravel marsh” wetland septic systems. Other natural features include breathing, soft, wood chip/concrete “terrazzo” floor slabs, natural earth floors, traditional straw/clay plastering and integrated cistern cool water and solar hot water, whole house cooling and heating systems.

From the design of the house to the materials used. I receive many compliments on the house from my neighbors. The Faswall house remains cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Everybody entering the house remarks on the comfort level of the house. Our temperature ranges from -20 to near 100. This is achievable with out A/C in the summer and a fireplace in the winter. Beyond the comfort level, is the noise level (quite) and just the feeling that the house is very sound and healthy. “Hi George, After living in our home for 23+ years, I am beyond satisfied with the "breathing walls" of our Faswall home. Not only has it greatly alleviated my issues with allergies and asthma, the energy efficiency has made it comfortable for both the extremely hot summers and the extremely cold winter events we experienced in Central Texas within the last ten years. Three times in the last four winters, temperatures dropped to 5° F, and the house remained comfortable. During the "Snowpalooza" event of February 2021, we lost power for over 40 hours, and while our neighbors had to suffer below freezing temperatures, even those who had fireplaces, our home never dropped below 51° degrees when the only heat source we had was a propane gas stove top. Prior to moving into this house, I was using my asthma emergency inhaler at least 3 times daily. I can count on one hand how many times I have used it in the last 23 years, usually when I am travelling and living/working in a different building. The improvement is dramatic. “Dear George, forgive my delay! I’ve been living in our breathable Faswall home for 28 years! I enjoy lower electic bills due to the walls ability to regulate the temperature. When entering the house during the hot summer days, the cool feeling reminds me of the adobe churches from the early days of Colonial Spanish California. During the 2021 winter storm with no electricity for 3 days, the house didn’t go below 45° with no heat in the house. I have had many visitors exclaim about the comfortable feeling of the house! I would recommend this building method!”
